Service Technician

Seasonal Service Technicians/Retail

From supporting guests to stocking and everything in between! Working in our Nursery in the busy spring season offers a fast-paced role alongside some enthusiastic and speedy teammates. About the Role:

The Service Technician is responsible for providing customer support in wrapping, lifting, carrying, and positioning plants and goods for customers transport being mindful of customer’s vehicle and property. The Service Technician provides additional support to team members for unloading inventory and heavy goods stocking and more as required.
What Does Your Day Look Like?
•    Lifting, carrying, and positioning plants and goods carefully for customer transport
•    Making sure placement of plants and goods in customer vehicles is done without damage to vehicle
•    Wrapping trees
•    Unloading trucks
•    Stocking heavier items
•    Production support – lifting and carrying custom planter orders
•    Perform tasks assigned by the Team Lead and follow any given instructions

What You Bring to The Table:

•    High School minimum
•    Positive attitude, self-starter and takes initiative
•    Ability to take instructions and prioritize tasks
•    Work well individually and as part of a team
•    Strong communication skills
•    Charismatic and a team player
•    Reliable form of transportation
•    Customer service experience, or customer-forward attitude
•    Capability to perform physical work, repetitive tasks and lift up to 25lbs.
•    Ability to work in greenhouse conditions (hot/cold environments depending on the season)

About the Role:

As a Garden Centre or a Front Yard Retail Sales Associate, you will be responsible for enhancing our guests purchasing experience.  You provide informed advice and assistance with locating products and providing plant suggestions. In addition to providing exceptional customer service, you will be responsible for working with your team to maintain the plants in your area and ensure plant quality and inventory levels within the Garden Centre and or the Front Yard.
What Does Your Day Look Like?
•    Loading and unloading double decker long cart full of plants
•    Replenishing inventory in the retail Garden Centre or the Front Yard
•    Taking customer inquiries and providing excellent customer service
•    Learn plant varieties and care information for a wide range of products
•    Maintain a clean and organized retail Garden Centre 
•    Sweeping, raking, and maintaining a clean and pleasant Front Yard environment
•    Perform tasks assigned by the Team Leads and follow any given instructions
•    Plant care – watering, cleaning the plants
•    Merchandising – tagging, shelving, displaying

About the Role:

As a Front-End Cashier Associate, you will bring Scott’s customer experience to life in the Front End by ensuring a positive customer experience for everyone who visits the Nursery. As possibly the first contact our guests will engage with and certainly the last, the role is crucial to ensure each guest leaves with a positive experience (their day being made). The position will entail processing transactions, greeting customers, orchestrating line control, stocking retail displays, and more.
Responsibilities
•    Ensuring Scott’s Nursery is a positive environment and “Happy Place” for all customers
•    Assisting guests in locating products, making informed recommendations, advising them on appropriate plant care and answering general gardening related questions
•    Accurately and efficiently processing guest transactions with a point-of-sale (POS) system
•    Understand plant pricing based on SKU’s, container types, and plant types
•    Providing guests with plant care information to aid in plant selection
•    Stay up to date on ongoing in-store promotions and apply applicable discounts on transactions for guests and staff
•    Demonstrate accountability in keeping an accurate till that balances at the end of each day
•    Perform tasks assigned by The Team Lead and follow provided instructions

Fundamental Objective: 

The primary objective of the Greenhouse Sales Associate is to provide exceptional customer service and demonstrate strong selling skills, with a key focus on daily watering as the main task. In addition to watering, responsibilities include maintaining a clean environment, monitoring plant health, and effectively addressing customer needs. Ensuring the plants are well-watered and thriving is essential to delivering a positive shopping experience and supporting overall greenhouse sales.

General Accountability:

The Greenhouse Sales Associate is primarily responsible for performing daily watering tasks, ensuring all plants receive the appropriate care needed to thrive. This is the top priority each day. Additionally, the role involves providing exceptional customer service, assisting customers with plant selection, and offering guidance on plant care.

Nature and Scope:

The Greenhouse Sales Associate works under the direct supervision of the Greenhouse Supervisor and collaborates effectively with team members across multiple departments. This role demands a strong commitment to quality and a high level of attention to detail. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, proactive in staying engaged with tasks, and demonstrates good communication skills. The Greenhouse Sales Associate must be adaptable and able to work comfortably in varying weather conditions throughout the seasons, ensuring that daily tasks are completed efficiently regardless of the environment.

Specific Accountabilities

Primary Duties

  • Watering plants is the main priority task to do daily to attain high quality plant growth.
  • Store, clean, and organization of trays, tools, and equipment, commonly used.
  • Thin, trim, weed, label, and provide specific care for plants as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service and selling skills
  • Assist customers with plant selection and care

Other

  • Caring for plants to keep them looking at their best.
  • Sweeping the floors and maintaining a clean and pleasant environment
  • Demonstrates company values in actions and behavior
  • Comply with all policies and procedures
  • Contributes to team effort 
  • Other duties as required

Skills and Knowledge

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Product knowledge and greenhouse experience are assets

  • Strong internal and external customer service skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to follow specific instructions carefully
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks throughout the day
  • Frequent walking, moving around, and performing tasks that involve lifting and working above head level
