Bird of Paradise plants definitely give a tropical feeling to their surroundings. White Birds don't flower as readily indoors as the orange ones but produce much larger leaves.
Lighting:Provide at least 4 hours of Southern or Western exposure.
Watering: Keep soil moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2-3" of soil is dry.
It is natural for the leaves to produce splits so it is nothing to worry about. Providing extra humidity may help somewhat.
